Nepal's Handmade Rug Manufacturer
Since 1991

NP Rugs is a handmade rug manufacturer based in Kathmandu, Nepal, producing hand-knotted, hand-tufted, and hand-loomed rugs for trade buyers worldwide since 1991.

From a Single Knot to 1,000+ Artisans

In 1991, Tenzing Sherpa, a civil engineer from Kathmandu,

Started NP Rugs with one goal: build a vertically integrated rug manufacturing operation in Nepal, owned and run by the people who make the rugs.

The facility at 780 Tusal Marg, Boudha, now employs over 1,000 skilled artisans. Every rug – hand-knotted, hand-woven, hand-tufted or hand-loomed – is produced entirely in-house, from raw material intake through washing, finishing, and quality inspection. NP Rugs does not outsource production or work through distributors. The price that trade buyers pay reflects labour, materials, and export costs. Nothing else.

What We Manufacture

Hand-Knotted

Tibetan and Persian knot techniques at 40 to 350 KPSI. The most durable construction we produce.

Hand-Woven

Shuttle-woven construction on traditional looms. Suited to flatweave designs requiring tighter structure and finer pattern definition than standard hand-loomed methods.

Hand-Loomed

Flatweaves and soumaks in natural plant-based fibres. Lightweight and scalable.

Hand-Tufted

Customisable pile depth and texture. Shorter lead times, used widely in hospitality and retail custom programmes.

GoodWeave and
Label STEP Certified Manufacturing

NP Rugs holds two independent certifications that US and European retail buyers require for ethical sourcing compliance.

Built on verified ethical production. Our supply chain is certified for zero child labour, safe working conditions, and legal wages, and is annually audited by GoodWeave International. Aligned with major US and European sourcing standards.

Aligned with ESG sourcing frameworks, our production ensures fair wages, safe working conditions, and responsible environmental practices. We provide complete compliance documentation for trade partners, verified through annual audits by Label STEP.

Member of Nepal Carpet Manufacturers & Exporters' Association, the national authority for export standards, quality benchmarks, and industry representation - reinforcing verified manufacturing and export credibility.

Manufactured in Nepal, all NP Rugs products use sustainably sourced natural materials - wool, silk, bamboo, and nettle - with locally integrated supply chains wherever possible.
